Built for Signal. Engineered for Scale.

The Ditch infrastructure transforms billions of raw data points into a single, navigable truth.

The Cognition Gap: Why Physics-Based Routing is a Liability for Autonomous Marine Navigation

1. THE CHALLENGE: SIGNAL PROCESSING

Raw data is a liability until it is validated.

In the marine environment, high volume data streams often contain high volume noise. A raw feed of AIS tracks includes GPS errors, grounding attempts, erratic tourist behavior, and sensor drift. Integrating this unfiltered stream directly into a navigation system introduces unacceptable risk.

We approach this as a signal processing problem. Utilizing anomaly detection methodologies similar to high frequency risk engines, Ditch treats vessel tracks as a signal to noise problem, ensuring only high confidence data reaches the chart plotter.

We do not simply aggregate tracks; we validate them against a rigorous set of behavioral standards.

2. THE DATA PIPELINE: INPUT LAYER

Global Ingestion at Enterprise Scale.

Our architecture is built on AWS cloud infrastructure, designed to ingest, clean, and normalize massive datasets without latency.

  • Ingestion: We currently process a historical database of billions of vessel track points, ingesting new data streams daily.

  • Normalization: Raw AIS feeds are notoriously dirty. Our pipeline automatically corrects for GPS drift, time-stamp errors, and incomplete vessel metadata before the data ever reaches the logic core.

  • Storage: Data is stored in a spatially indexed environment, optimized for high-speed geospatial querying across the entire United States coastal network.

3. LOCAL LOGIC:
THE CORE

Separating the tourist from the expert.

The heart of our IP is the Local Expert logic. This is the algorithmic layer that assigns a trust score to every vessel track in our database.

Unlike simple heat maps that treat every boat equally, our logic weights data based on behavioral heuristics. A single passage by a commercial fishing vessel carries more weight than fifty passes by a weekend rental boat.

4. COGNITION LAYER: OUTPUT

From dots to vectors.

Once the noise is stripped away, the Cognition Layer takes over. This is where data becomes guidance.

  • Behavioral Path Validation: The system aggregates the high trust tracks to generate a geometric center line, a Smart Path that represents the consensus decision of local captains.

  • Precision: The output offers a spatial resolution, providing clarity even in narrow channels where standard surveys fail.

  • Coverage: Our processed Local Expert graph currently covers the navigable waterways of the continental United States, with the architecture ready for global expansion.

5.  API: THE INTEGRATION

Plug and play infrastructure.

We deliver this intelligence via a production hardened RESTful API, designed for seamless integration into existing Multi-Function Displays (MFDs), mobile apps, or backend analytics tools.

  • Low Latency: Optimized for speed.

  • Standard Formats: Responses are delivered in standard Vector Tile formats, ensuring compatibility with Mapbox, Google Maps, and proprietary chart plotters.

  • Security: Enterprise-grade security with standard API Key authentication.
